Let’s start with Hypnosis. Hypnosis is simply relaxing the critical mind.

Once this relaxed state of mind is achieved the subconscious mind is open to useful and positive suggestions.

There is no surrender of free will or mind control.  A person cannot be hypnotized against their will or be enticed to do or say anything that would violate their own personal standards, integrity or ethics.

A Hypnotherapist uses Hypnosis to guide a person to achieve the results they envisage. Hypnosis can assist people in making positive changes in their lives. Changes are accomplished through the art and science and skilled application of hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy has the potential to help relieve the symptoms of a wide variety of dis-eases and conditions. It can be used independently or along with other treatments. For example, Hypnotherapy is most commonly thought of in areas such as smoking, weight loss, fears and phobias but is valuable in many other areas such as self esteem; insomnia; motivation; childbirth; sports; pre and post surgery; time management; IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome); chronic pain management and the list goes on.Hypnotherapy is one of several relaxation methods for treating chronic pain that has been approved by an independent panel convened by the National Institutes of Health.Hypnosis was accepted by the American Medical Association in 1958 as a viable form of treatment.

What to expect?

During your first visit to a hypnotherapist, he or she will ask you questions about your medical history and what brought you to see them – in other words, what condition it is that you would like to clear up. The specialist will then, likely, explain to you what hypnosis is and how it works. You will then be directed through relaxation techniques with a series of mental images and suggestions intended to change behaviours and alleviate symptoms. For example, people who suffer from panic attacks may be given the suggestion that, in the future, they will be able to relax at will. The hypnotherapist will also teach you the basics of self-hypnosis.

Each session lasts about an hour (longer for the first session) Together, you and your hypnotherapist will monitor and evaluate your progress over time.   In most situations 2 to 3 sessions are enough to achieve desired results.

How does hypnosis work?

During hypnosis, a person's body relaxes while his or her thoughts become more focused and attentive. Like other relaxation techniques, hypnosis decreases blood pressure and heart rate, and alters certain types of brain wave activity. In this relaxed state, a person will feel very at ease physically yet fully awake mentally. In this state of deep concentration people are highly responsive to suggestion. If you are trying to quit smoking, for example, a therapist's suggestion may successfully convince you that in the future you will have a strong dislike for the taste of cigarettes.
